Best Indiana Jones movies

Raiders of the Lost Ark wins 70% of its duels and tops the Indiana Jones ranking ahead of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

The franchise's first two installments hold a clear advantage over the rest. Raiders of the Lost Ark leads with 1290 ELO points, followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at 1253 points. A sharper divide emerges between ranks 2 and 3: 75 ELO points separate Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which sits at 1178 points. The original trilogy still claims the entire podium, but the bottom half tells a different story. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny edges out Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by just 4 points, placing fourth at 1106 ELO. The two later entries, often criticized upon release, remain tightly clustered at the ranking's lower end, with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull closing at 1102 points.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
