Best Sushi types

California Rolls win 68% of their duels and top the Sushi ranking ahead of Hosomaki.

A substantial 111 ELO points separate California Rolls from Hosomaki at the top, a gap that signals decisive preference rather than marginal advantage. The middle ranks bunch together tightly: Maki Sushi at 1289 points sits just 4 points above Nigiri Sushi, while Sashimi trails by a single point at 1284. These narrow margins suggest the community sees little to choose between traditional forms. At the bottom, Egg Roll languishes at 1059 points with a 33% win rate, suggesting voters draw a sharp line between what counts as sushi and what does not. The presence of Egg Roll in last place raises questions about whether it belongs in this ranking at all.

This ranking draws from 2534 duels cast by 72 players across 13 contenders, updated on 11 October 2026. The sample size offers a reliable snapshot of community preference, though the tight clustering in the middle ranks means a few dozen votes could reshuffle positions. If you have a view on which sushi type hits different, add your vote to shape the next iteration of the ranking.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
