49 ELO points separate Salty from Sweet at the top of the Flavors ranking, after 277 duels.

Salty claims first place with 1308 ELO points and a 63% win rate across 49 duels, while Sweet follows at 1259 points after 73 matchups. Umami secures third with 1197 points, establishing a clear podium above the rest of the field. The sharpest drop in the ranking appears between fourth and fifth: Sour at 1174 points stands 112 ELO points above Bitter, which lands last at 1062 points with a 35% win rate over 48 duels. This gap suggests the community draws a firm line between the four classic tastes and the polarizing bitterness that divides voters. Bitter's position at the bottom reveals how contentious this flavor remains, winning barely more than a third of its encounters.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
