Most impactful Berserk events

164 ELO points separate Griffith's betrayal and the massacre of the Hawks (Eclipse) from Casca losing her memory at the top of the Berserk ranking, after 746 duels.

Griffith's assault on Casca claims first place with 1476 ELO points, winning 80% of its 108 duels. Just 13 points behind at 1463 ELO, Griffith's betrayal and the massacre of the Hawks (Eclipse) wins 79% of its encounters. The sharpest divide in the ranking opens below these two horrors: the 164-point gap to third-placed Casca losing her memory at 1299 ELO reveals how voters weigh active violence against its aftermath. The Brand of Sacrifice holds fourth with 1256 ELO points across 151 duels, while Guts meeting Griffith rounds out the top 5 at 1233 ELO. At the bottom, Sys' death registers just 912 ELO with a 20% win rate. Childhood trauma ranks consistently lower than the Eclipse's devastation.

This ranking draws from 746 duels judged by 23 players across 12 contenders, last updated on 12 October 2026. The concentration of Griffith-related events at the summit reflects the Eclipse's enduring grip on readers, while early-life events struggle to compete with later atrocities. Does the assault on Casca or the wholesale slaughter of the Band of the Hawk define Guts more? The figures put both within 13 ELO points of each other, but voters can still shift the order. Head to VAINKEURZ to cast your verdict on which moment scarred Guts deepest.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
