Best Hogwarts classes

Defense Against the Dark Arts leads the Harry Potter ranking with 1381 ELO points over 301 duels, ahead of Care of Magical Creatures and Potions.

Defense Against the Dark Arts edges out Care of Magical Creatures by 22 points at the top, with Potions close behind at 1353. The tightest race sits just below the podium: a mere 2 points separate Potions in third from Charms in fourth. But the steepest drop in the ranking comes between Charms and Transfiguration, where 44 ELO points mark the boundary between the top tier and the rest. At the bottom, Arithmancy languishes at 953 points with a 26 percent win rate, suggesting that few voters share Hermione's enthusiasm for numerical divination. History of Magic and Muggle Studies occupy the two spots just above, confirming that theoretical subjects struggle to capture the community's favor.

This ranking draws on 2339 duels submitted by 59 players across 14 Hogwarts subjects, updated on 11 October 2026. The results reflect a clear preference for hands-on, high-stakes classes over academic drudgery. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
