Best One Piece captains

20051 duels later, Luffy remains #1 in the One Piece captain ranking with 1596 ELO points, while Whitebeard holds second place at 1560.

Luffy's dominance at the top stems from a 72% win rate across 748 duels, outpacing Whitebeard by 36 ELO points. Just 1 point separates Whitebeard from Shanks at rank 3, making the podium's middle positions fiercely contested. The sharpest divide appears between ranks 4 and 5, where a 67-point gap splits Roger from Ace, marking the boundary between legendary captains and the rest of the field. Roger's placement at rank 4 with 1532 points and a 67% win rate suggests the Pirate King's reputation still commands respect, even if nostalgia doesn't guarantee him a podium finish. At the bottom, Demalo Black languishes at rank 50 with 900 ELO points and a 26% win rate, proving that impersonating the Straw Hat captain earns no favor from voters. Bluejam and Vander Decken IX round out the cellar, their low rankings reflecting the community's judgment on captains whose cruelty or obsession overshadowed their leadership.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
