Best dragon type Pokémon

7 ELO points separate Mega Charizard X from Dragonite at the top of the Pokémon dragon-type ranking, after 29981 duels.

The top of the podium reveals a fierce contest. Mega Charizard X edges out Dragonite by just 7 points, claiming 1404 ELO to Dragonite's 1397. Dragapult follows closely at third with 1392 ELO, despite posting the strongest win rate in the top 5 at 65%. Reshiram and Hydreigon round out the top five, separated by a mere 6 points. The tight margins across the podium suggest a community split between classic favorites and competitive powerhouses. At the bottom, Hisuian Sliggoo languishes at rank 72 with 981 ELO and a 31% win rate, while Vibrava sits just above at 984 ELO. The presence of Miraidon at rank 70, a legendary from recent games, hints at a player base that values nostalgia and design appeal over raw battle stats.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
