Best Shaman King characters

8 ELO points separate Anna Kyoyama from Yoh Asakura at the top of the Shaman King ranking, after 1327 duels.

The gap narrows further down the podium: Matamune sits 47 points behind Yoh at rank 3 with 1308 ELO, while the steepest drop appears between ranks 4 and 5, where 64 points separate Amidamaru from Horohoro. Anna's 1363 ELO confirms her status as the fanbase's clear favorite among Yoh's circle, though the protagonist himself stays close with 1355 points and a 66% win rate over 35 duels. Amidamaru holds rank 4 with 1296 ELO and an impressive 69% win rate across 42 duels, showing the samurai spirit's sustained appeal. At the bottom, Chocolove McDonell languishes at rank 11 with 1056 ELO and a 33% win rate over 39 duels, suggesting the humor-driven character struggles to match the appeal of the core team's fighters and spiritual powerhouses. Tamao Tamamura sits just above him at rank 10 with 1060 ELO.

The ranking draws on 1327 duels submitted by 54 players across 11 contenders, updated on 12 October 2026. Anna and Yoh's tight race at the summit reflects a divided preference between the determined itako and the easygoing shaman king candidate. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
