Best Sword Art Online arcs

Aincrad wins 62% of its duels and tops the Sword Art Online ranking ahead of War of Underworld.

The top two arcs sit remarkably close: only 6 ELO points separate Aincrad at 1346 from War of Underworld at 1340, while Alicization holds third place with 1277 points. War of Underworld actually posts a stronger 64% win rate despite trailing in ELO, suggesting it faces tougher matchups than the leader. The real divide emerges between ranks 4 and 5, where Phantom Bullet at 1270 opens a 112-point gap over Ordinal Scale at 1158, the largest split in the entire ranking. This positions the movie arc at the threshold between fan favorites and more polarizing entries. At the bottom, Calibur languishes at 1028 ELO with a 35% win rate across 57 duels, underlining its status as the least favored arc among voters. Mother's Rosario and Fairy Dance occupy the middle-low range with 1129 and 1119 points respectively.

This ranking draws from 701 duels submitted by 37 players across 9 contenders, updated on 12 October 2026. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
