Best Months of the Year

113 ELO points separate December from October at the top of the Months of the Year ranking, after 4254 duels.

December dominates with 1414 ELO points and a 67% win rate across 320 duels, establishing a commanding lead over its nearest rival. October sits at 1301 ELO points but maintains only a 51% win rate despite facing 389 duels, while August claims third place with 1267 ELO points and a stronger 58% win rate. The gap between first and second place reveals December as the overwhelming favorite, likely driven by holiday associations and year-end sentiment. At the bottom, September languishes at 1018 ELO points with a 33% win rate, suggesting the transition period between summer and autumn holds little appeal for voters. March and April also struggle in the lower ranks, indicating that early spring months fail to capture the enthusiasm of the community.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
