14827 duels later, Basketball holds the top spot in the Olympics ranking, with Table Tennis 19 ELO points behind at 1319.

Basketball dominates with 1338 ELO points and a 60% win rate across 553 duels, but the 19-point gap separating it from Table Tennis shows a tight race at the summit. Table Tennis has logged 540 duels and maintains a 56% win rate, while Handball sits third at 1310 ELO after 568 duels. Track and Field claims fourth place with 1308 points from 500 duels, and Tennis completes the top 5 at 1300 ELO. The podium reflects high-intensity team and individual sports that draw broad audiences. At the bottom, the ranking reveals niche appeal: Weightlifting anchors the list at 1002 ELO with a 37% win rate across 405 duels, just below Equestrian at 1012 points from 412 duels. Wrestling occupies rank 21 with 1033 ELO, suggesting these disciplines struggle to capture the same attention as mainstream events.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
