Hardest groups Euro 2024

230 duels later, GROUP B remains #1 in the UEFA EURO toughest group ranking with 1361 ELO points, GROUP D trailing close behind at 1350.

The race for the top spot is tight, with just 11 ELO points separating GROUP B from GROUP D. Both groups win roughly 70% of their duels, but a sharper divide emerges below: 104 ELO points split GROUP D from third-placed GROUP A, the widest gap in the ranking. GROUP A wins 56% of its duels over 45 matchups, while GROUP C at rank 4 dips to a 47% win rate. The bottom of the ranking tells a different story. GROUP E sits last with 998 ELO points and wins only 23% of its duels, suggesting voters found it far less challenging than the groups above.

This ranking draws on 230 duels submitted by 27 players, comparing all 6 groups from the tournament. The figures reflect the state of the vote as of 12 October. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
