Best Shadowhunters characters

639 duels later, Magnus Bane is still #1 in the Shadowhunters ranking, with Alec Lightwood close behind.

Magnus Bane commands the top spot with 1427 ELO points after winning 74% of his 46 duels, but the sharpest divide appears just below. Alec Lightwood holds second place at 1389 ELO, then a 144-point gap drops to Izzy Lightwood in third with 1245 ELO. That distance—the largest in the ranking—separates the dominant pair from the rest of the field. At the bottom, protagonist Clary Fray lands in seventh place with 1157 ELO and a 47% win rate, trailing the Lightwood siblings and her on-screen love interest. Luke Garroway places eighth at 1041 ELO, and Maia Roberts closes the ranking in ninth with 957 ELO after winning just 19% of her 47 duels.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
