Best FIFA 23 TOTY players

1678 duels later, Mbappé is still #1 in the FIFA ranking, with De Bruyne close behind.

Mbappé sits at the top with 1352 ELO points, but the real story lies in the 72-point gap separating him from De Bruyne in second place. That margin is the largest in the ranking, confirming Mbappé's dominance among TOTY players. Messi follows in third with 1269 points, just 11 points behind De Bruyne, while Haaland claims fourth with 1217 points and Van Dijk completes the top 5 at 1208 points. The podium reflects attacking firepower, with two forwards and a playmaker taking the lead. At the opposite end, Courtois and Militao struggle near the bottom, with Courtois winning just 35% of his 55 duels and Militao managing 37% across 51 matchups. The community has clearly picked its attacking favorites, leaving defenders and goalkeepers trailing in a ranking that rewards flair over solidity.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
