Best tanks in League of Legends

Maokai leads the League of Legends best Tank ranking with 1312 ELO points over 48 duels, ahead of Alistar and Sejuani.

The top of the ranking reveals a tight race, with Alistar at 1308 ELO just 4 points behind Maokai. The most pronounced gap appears between ranks 2 and 3, where 20 ELO points separate Alistar from Sejuani at 1288. Malphite and Ornn round out the top 5 with 1273 and 1264 ELO respectively, showing a competitive field where small margins define the hierarchy. At the bottom, Singed sits at rank 20 with 1073 ELO and a 35% win rate, while Jarvan IV ranks just above at 1076 ELO. The presence of champions like Singed and Poppy at the bottom suggests the community favors traditional frontline tanks over champions with hybrid or unconventional tanking styles.

This ranking draws from 3415 duels submitted by 58 players across 20 contenders, updated on 11 October 2026. The narrow ELO differences at the top indicate that player preference among elite tanks remains closely divided, with no single champion dominating the conversation. Whether you favor engage-heavy picks like Alistar or zone-control specialists like Maokai, the data reflects genuine debate within the community. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
