Best Minecraft ore blocks

Netherite wins 69% of its duels and tops the Minecraft ore block ranking ahead of Diamond and Iron.

Diamond follows at 1360 ELO points, just 42 points behind Netherite, while Iron secures third place with 1299 points. The sharpest divide appears between Emerald and Gold: 88 ELO points separate the two, marking the clearest boundary in the ranking. Emerald holds fourth with 1286 points, while Gold drops to fifth at 1198 points despite its iconic status in the game. At the bottom, Copper languishes at 1010 ELO points after 101 duels, suggesting the community has little attachment to the newer addition. Coal and Lapis Lazuli fare slightly better but remain firmly in the lower tier, each winning 36% of their duels. The gap between the top contenders and the bottom reveals a clear hierarchy: players gravitate toward rare and powerful materials while showing less enthusiasm for common or decorative ores.

This ranking draws from 473 duels cast by 25 players across 9 contenders, updated on 12 October 2026. The data captures preferences for ore blocks that define the Minecraft mining experience, from the endgame power of Netherite to the mundane utility of Coal. Each vote reshapes the standings and reveals what the community values most when mining underground or exploring the Nether. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
