Best elder dragons Monster Hunter World

3236 duels later, Safi'jiiva is still #1 in the Monster Hunter World elder dragon beauty ranking, with Velkhana close behind.

Safi'jiiva edges out Velkhana by just 1 ELO point at 1348, making this the tightest race at the summit. Velkhana claims 64% of its duels but cannot overtake the red dragon's slight lead. The real separation appears below the podium: Fatalis at rank 3 holds a 28-point advantage over Alatreon at rank 4, the sharpest gap in the top positions. Xeno'jiiva rounds out the top 5 at 1285 ELO. At the opposite end, Behemoth languishes at the bottom with 934 ELO and a 27% win rate, suggesting players find little aesthetic appeal in the crossover monster. Vaal Hazak and its Blackveil variant occupy ranks 17 and 16, indicating that rot and decay do not win beauty contests among elder dragons.

This ranking draws from 3236 duels cast by 61 players across 18 contenders, updated on 11 October 2026. The narrow margins at the top and the decisive rejection of certain dragons at the bottom reveal a community split between admiration for sleek, powerful forms and distaste for grotesque designs. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
