Best racing game franchises

Gran Turismo leads the Racing Games ranking with 1380 ELO points over 64 duels, ahead of Dirt and Mario Kart.

A 47-point gap separates Gran Turismo from Dirt at the top, marking the sharpest divide in the ranking. Mario Kart trails in third place with 1321 ELO, while Burnout and Need for Speed round out the top five. The podium reflects contrasting approaches to racing: simulation precision, rally grit, and arcade accessibility each claim their territory. At the bottom, Road Redemption struggles at 990 ELO with a 23% win rate, suggesting the community favors established franchises over niche entries. WipEout and FlatOut occupy the two spots above, indicating that futuristic racers and destruction-focused titles command less devotion than their track-based counterparts.

This ranking stems from 3181 duels across 45 players, comparing 23 racing game franchises. The figures reflect the state of the vote as of 12 October 2026. Players continue to weigh in on which series delivers the most compelling racing experience, and the ranking shifts with each new duel. Anyone can join the vote and influence the standings by choosing between two franchises in head-to-head matchups. The process remains open, and every duel adjusts the ELO scores that determine the final order.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
