What the community says

20 ELO points separate Link from Ezio Auditore at the top of the Best Video Game Character EVER ranking, after 38094 duels.

Link claims the crown with 1414 ELO points across 957 duels, winning 58% of matchups. The gap to second place is narrow: Ezio Auditore sits just below at 1394 ELO with a 59% win rate over 851 duels. Mario rounds out the podium at 1386 ELO, demonstrating that the plumber's decades of platforming still resonate with voters. Kratos trails closely at 1384 ELO, while Peter Parker holds fifth at 1365 ELO. The tight clustering at the top suggests no runaway favorite, just fierce competition among gaming's most beloved figures. At the bottom, Saga Anderson languishes at rank 95 with 896 ELO, preceded by Lev at 1001 ELO and Farah at 1037 ELO. The community has delivered its verdict: legacy icons with widespread recognition dominate, while newer or supporting characters struggle to gain traction against household names.

This ranking draws from 38094 duels involving 98 players across 95 contenders, updated on 10 October 2026. The volume of voting reveals a passionate community willing to pit heroes, antiheroes, and sidekicks against one another in head-to-head combat. Whether you champion the silent swordsman from Hyrule or the charismatic Assassin from Renaissance Italy, your vote shapes the outcome. Visit VAINKEURZ to cast your duels and see if your favorite can climb higher or if the established elite will hold its ground against fresh challengers.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
