Best Video game franchises

23 ELO points separate Minecraft from Fortnite at the top of the video game franchises ranking, after 25245 duels.

Minecraft sits at 1398 ELO, winning 60% of its matchups across 752 duels, while Fortnite follows close behind at 1375 ELO with a 55% win rate over 781 duels. The gap between them remains narrow, suggesting a genuine contest for the top spot. Pokémon claims third at 1374 ELO, nearly tied with Fortnite and demonstrating its lasting appeal across generations. Super Mario lands at fourth with 1360 ELO after 839 duels, and Mario Kart rounds out the top five at 1340 ELO. The podium reveals a community devoted to franchises offering open-ended play, competitive multiplayer, or reliable nostalgia. At the bottom, the picture shifts: Black Desert Online sits at 31st with 966 ELO and a 27% win rate over 543 duels, while Dota ranks 30th at 970 ELO despite its reputation as an esports staple. These lower placements suggest that niche appeal or demanding learning curves limit broad engagement.

This ranking draws from 25245 duels cast by 242 players across 31 contenders, updated on 10 October 2026. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
