Best Super Mario Bros. U characters

Bowser wins 73% of its duels and tops the Super Mario Bros. U ranking ahead of Luigi.

Luigi holds the #2 spot with 1391 ELO points, but a significant 72-point gap separates him from Princess Peach in third place. This chasm suggests that while the villain and the hero's brother command strong support, the princess faces a steeper climb to match their standing. Bowser's dominance at 1408 ELO points confirms that players favor the antagonist over the traditional heroes. At the bottom, Spike languishes in last place with just 997 ELO points and a 24% win rate across 94 duels, while Big Sumo Bro sits just above at 1037 points. The lower ranks reveal that obscure enemies and secondary characters struggle to win the community's affection in this crowded field of 19 contenders.

This ranking draws from 5973 duels contributed by 112 players, offering a detailed picture of fan preferences within the Super Mario Bros. U roster. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
