Best World of Warcraft races

Blood Elf leads the World of Warcraft ranking with 1326 ELO points over 335 duels, ahead of Tauren and Nightborne.

The top three races cluster within 32 ELO points, but Tauren establishes the clearest separation: 19 points ahead of Nightborne at rank 3. Blood Elf wins 60% of its duels, the highest rate on the podium, while Tauren's 1313 ELO reflects steadier performance across 382 duels. Mag'har Orc and Night Elf trail closely at ranks 4 and 5, separated by just 1 ELO point. At the bottom, Mechagnome sits 92 points below Gnome, winning only 29% of its 283 duels. The gap between rank 23 and rank 24 is the widest in the ranking, suggesting the community draws a sharp line between tolerating Gnome and rejecting Mechagnome outright. Earthen, a newer addition to the roster, lands at rank 22 with 1067 ELO.

This ranking draws on 4471 duels voted by 51 players across 24 contenders, updated on 11 October 2026. Blood Elf's dominance reflects long-standing aesthetic and lore appeal, while the Mechagnome's position confirms its divisive reception since introduction. Whether you favor Horde elegance, Alliance tradition or allied race novelty, cast your vote to shift the standings. How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
